On March 23rd of every year, the World Meteorological Day is observed to commemorate the re-establishment of the World Meteorological Organization on the same date in 1950. It recognizes the contributions of meteorological and hydrological services to the safety and well-being of human societies. The event features various activities such as conferences, exhibitions, seminars, and social media campaigns to raise awareness and promote innovative actions on weather, climate, or water-related issues. The 2023 theme for World Meteorological Day was “The future of Weather, Climate and Water across Generations.”
Eclectic Love marked the day in partnership with the Ghana Meteorological Agency and an expert from the WASH sector, Shallom Lumor on March 25, 2023 at Eclectic Love. The event was aimed at creating awareness of the importance of the World Meteorological Organization and the Ghana Meteorological Agency. It also sought to educate participants on practical skills in weather and water management, the need for sustainable water and hygiene management, and the provision of clean and safe water. The event included presentations from the Ghana Meteorological Agency on seasonal variations in weather in the Volta Region and safety precautions against unfriendly weather situations, and a presentation from the expert on sustainable water and hygiene management, which included a demonstration of handwashing using a tippy tap and a satole tap. The event ended with a question and answer session and a quiz for participants.
In addition, Eclectic Love merged the World Water Day, which is celebrated every year on March 22nd, with the World Meteorological Day celebration. The theme for World Water Day was “Enhancing Change.” Eclectic Love aimed to promote the provision of clean water and sanitation, climate action, gender equality, reduced inequality, and partnership for the goals in line with their operational Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1, 4, 5, 6, 10, 13, 16, and 17. The successful event included lectures, presentations, practical demonstrations, and quiz sessions to educate and promote the importance of weather and water-related issues for a sustainable future.
