May 28th, marked a special day, not only for girls and women in Ghana, but across the world. We had the pleasure of speaking to girls in Hodzo about menstrual hygiene. We learned that some were taught they are dirty during their cycle and told other negative truths. During our discussion, we watched a video that gave some friendly menstrual facts. After our interactive discussion, we provided sanitary napkins to each girl.
In celebration of Menstrual Hygiene Day, we was able to provide 80 girls with sanitary pads and educate them on “period health.” We hope the government will remove the tax placed on sanitary napkins, which increases the cost and the worry of being able to provide them. Sanitary napkins, tampons, and menstrual cups are not a luxury, they are a necessity for all females.
