International Day of Education- Invest in People, Prioritize Education!

We visited three different schools, Ho-Kpodzi ‘A’ Basic School, Ho- Dome E.P. JHS School, and Ho- A.M.E. Zion School over the course of two days to celebrate International Day of Education in the Ho Municipality of Volta Region, Ghana. Students and teachers alike learned about their human rights with emphasis on HR 26, which is the right to education. After they were taught their rights about HR 26, the students were educated on their responsibilities. The schools were encouraged to continue to exercise their right to education by attending school regularly and doing their best when in school. Teachers were encouraged to stay in the classrooms and teach our students in the schools. Afghanistan was cited as an example, where the females, no longer have the right to education after high school and also that they are not allowed to work for nonprofit organizations, such as Eclectic Love in Afghanistan.  They were also taught to their colors in a new language, Spanish, which was very exciting to the students and teachers. There were great discussions during the human rights education. During the session, on the SDGs the students asked questions and even gave their own understanding of what each SDG goal we discussed meant to them. Coloring sheets in Spanish was left for the students to do in their leisure time The program was successful. Questions and answers were done during the sessions, where exercise books and pencils were given as prizes. In attendance, we had staff of Eclectic Love, an international volunteer for Eclectic Love, Albert Garbhins and Eugenia from McGharbins Network, and students, heads (principals), and teachers from various schools.
